No Shot No Drill Treatment
IF YOUR CHILD HAS DIFFICULTY SITTING STILL FOR TREATMENT, DR. J MAY OFFER
NO SHOT, NO DRILL TREATMENT OPTIONS TO CONTROL THE CAVITY INITIALLY.
This includes Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), Protective Restoration, and Stainless Steel Crown treatment options.
· Silver Diamine Fluoride treatment is used to stop the cavity before definite restoration placement and as initial step of cavity control therapy. We simply use a small brush to paint on the cavity,
· Placing putty can be used to control the progrssion of a dental cavity. We use a cotton tipped applicator (may look like a Q-tip) to place the putty. This works well for young children.
· Tiny rubber bands can be used to make space for the crown, which will be cemented on the next visit. This technique helps with teeth with more extensive cavities.
Why use these options?
Dr. J recommends using these options in several situations, including:
- Children who have extreme decay
- Young children who have difficulty sitting still for treatment
- Children with cavities that need to be treated over several visits
The Advantages of treatments:
- Simple and quick way to treat cavitiy initially
- Provides immediate relief from tooth sensitivity
- It kills the bacteria that cause cavities
- Hardens softened tooth structure, making strong teeth
- Requires no "shot" and minimum or no "drilling"
- Avoid sedation visit
Treatment with these options do not eliminate the need for restorative dentistry in the future, but can be great options to stop and prevent the progression of a cavity.
